SUMMARY:Book Reading and Discussion on Bullying
DESCRIPTION:Meet local author and business woman\, Smita Nagpal\, Ph.D.\, as she reads from her first children's book Brian and the Bully. A discussion about bullying will follow the reading. Dr. Nagpal is co-owner of Still Waters Counseling in Saline and has many years experience working with children. The book provides an uncommon perspective on the topic of bullying. Dr. Nagpal believes there is no simple answer for kids who experience this issue and providing a one-size fits all solution can make the problem worse. Instead she suggests a significant departure from providing a solution to simply listening to the child and attempting to problem solve with them. The book contains a note for parents and caregivers that offers guidance on what to do if their child is being bullied. The book was co-written by Elizabeth Mikesch\, MFA(a Saline High School graduate) and contains beautiful artwork from local Ann Arbor artist\, Britten Daywell.
